Description
This course provides an understanding of the politics of crime policy, the relationship between incarceration and crime, the racial dynamics of the criminal justice system, socio-economic polices and incarceration, the and value of Restorative Justice. The course will also examine the issues related to re-entry, and alternatives to incarceration. The course will also facilitate interactions with actors in the justice system in the Washington DC area, which may include court watching, a tour of the DC Jail and discussions with leaders in corrections, jail ministry, reentry planning and advocacy. The course is designed to equip leaders with the tools necessary to work with congregations and community partners to eliminate racial inequality in the criminal justice system.
